    Sir John Cummings observed in a Review of the Industrial Position and Prospects in Bengal in 1908: "The Bengal Chemical & Pharmaceutical Works Ltd. is one of the most go ahead young enterprises in Bengal. Dr Prafulla Chandra Ray, D.S., E.C.S. started it as a small private concern in Upper Circular Road and made drugs from indigenous materials.
